  • Can You Carry A Tune?

Rotarian Stephen Graham invites any (male) Rotarian who is capable of carrying a tune in a bucket or any other vessel, to join a Rotary Barbershop Quartet.

    Bunco Squad

Peter Green reported that a test run of Bunco, under semi-controlled circumstances resulted in a near-riot.  An emergency phone call to Ken Lewis for legal advice on the rules of Bunco gleaned the knowledge that Ken's only experience with the game was one that ended in a fight. A domestic dispute lightened the mood, so Les Talbot changed the rules and promptly enjoyed three straight Buncos.  Les, however, soon left the game and walked home, refusing all offers of a ride.

Encouraged by the prospect of further excitement, Peter has assembled another team to conduct a second evening of experimenting. John Keenan promises to slip a mickey into Peter's glass if he becomes too irate next time. A show of 15 or 20 hands indicates even more interest for an official evening of Bunco in May.

    Interact Report

Jackie Carney, who went on a Rotary exchange to Sweden in 91-93, is now a teacher at Catholic Central, and is a spark plug that helps the Interact club there to keep firing on all cylinders.  This year's Santa Anonymous program delivered 25 hampers to new Canadian families.  In the upcoming year, they hope to increase that to 50-100 hampers.  Stephanie Duguay reported on the "Think Fast" program in which participants will fast for 25 hours, and passed around a pledge form for Rotarians to donate to this fund-raiser.

    Club Fundraiser Proposal

Rotarian Kendall Gibson introduced a fundraiser in which We Don't have to sell tickets.  Businesses that provide prizes will be entitled to television advertising on Global TV.  The grand prize, a Cadillac worth $52,000 has been donated to this Rotary fundraiser by Murray Chev, Olds, Cadillac.  There is a $10,000 boat, motor and trailer as an Early Bird prize.  Capitol Furniture is supplying a $6500 bedroom suite, and there are golf holidays, a BBQ, shopping certificates, mountain bikes, patio furniture and golf games in the prize package.

Global will secure all prizes, Global will sell all tickets and We Don't have to sell tickets.  Donors who wish to get advertising in return can call Kendall at 327-1521 for more information.  Global gets the first $40,000 to cover costs, and then shares with Rotary for the rest of the income.  If all tickets sell, Rotary could be the recipient of up to $120,000.  And the best news is We Don't have to sell tickets.  Tickets will be sold by TNS who also sells for Kinsmen and the Hospital fundraisers.

Our Rotary Club applies to Alberta Gaming for the license. Oh, did we mention: We Don't have to sell tickets.

A vote by show of hands showed enthusiasm and support for the project.  Thanks Kendall.

    OOPS

Kendall's half-hour newscast pre-empted the scheduled Cancer Relay for Life which has been re-scheduled to April 28.

    Mexican Hat Auction

Dick Turner commandeered the podium for long enough to sell three more hats to participants of the May 2-3-4 - District Conference in Medicine Hat.

    Greeter

Hey Dale Junior, your greeter was a no-show.  Unofficial, fast and furious introductions were made of many guests who had come in support of the Cancer Relay For Life talk.

    SAA Report

Dawna Coslovi fined Frank for his "heavy program" comment directly before inviting her to the podium.  Marlin paid for wearing a losers' Jersey.  Dawna then surrendered a couple of happy bucks for Integra air and Lloyd Hickman, both taking care of her parents last week.  David C paid a happy buck to boast that he got to pick up Hanski from school for the meeting.  Barry was happy that he taught Hanski to play Crib so well that she beat him.  Elle paid an umbrella buck to announce the Ric Casson Golf Tournament June 27, that will donate all proceeds to Child Find.  Liz is happy that she has been appointed to a provincial board.  Lottie is happy that her daughter is being recognized for volunteerism. Wayne is happy that we didn't get fined for the ladies who refused to sit with us. Jack Y is happy Dick sold three hats.  Gerry is happy about eating out again and having a new pit bull puppy.  Jennifer is happy to be back from Hong Kong and happier that she is beyond the incubation for SARS, with no visible effects.  Ralph is really happy to find Elle a van from Murray Chev, Olds, Cadillac.  Lorne (object of the for-Lorne singing three weeks ago) is happy that an old grade nine school mate still recognized him after only 60 years.  Mike M was happy to teach Duncan L the game of Canasta.  Gordon was happy to send Dawna after Sam for a happy buck.  Great Job Dawna, I vote that you get to do it again.
