    New Rotary Club

The latest club to charter in Calgary will be on April 30.  Tickets $40.00 available from Dale Merchant.

    Bunko Squad

John Keenan says he and his wife had a great time hosting the Saturday night Bridge party.  However, John feels he will always be a Bridge under-achiever, so proposed to change the rules and call the game Bunko.  Bernie volunteered to make up new rules (as they play).

    District Conference

Our own PDG Dale Merchant pitched the event as a great opportunity to learn more of the next level of Rotary.  It will be held in Medicine Hat May 2, 3 and 4.  Incoming executive members are required to attend the District Assembly and all others are welcome too.  Friday evening is Home Hospitality night.  Saturday, Lethbridge-born Dr. John Patterson, son of Gilbert Patterson will be speaking.  Saskatchewan Lt. Governor Lynda Haverstock will also be a guest speaker.  Saturday evening is the Governor's Ball, and Sunday is memorial services for deceased Rotarians.  Senator Tommy Banks will be speaking and breakfast will be hosted by our club, as we will host the 2004 District Conference at the Lodge.

    Sergeant At Arms

Elisabeth extracted loonies from all male members whose tables were not graced by at least one member of the fairer sex.  Darrell paid for unorthodox ideas of fundraising that he promoted at Linda's chili house- warming.  Dale was happy his daughter has found gainful employment.  Tim Water is happy to be taking his son for 6 weeks of golfing lessons.  Kendall was happy for Linda's bringing new meaning to chili on hot buns.  Linda was happy that her chili bash went over so well, and also that her son is furthering his education.  Bev Atherstone-Muendel was happy to have escaped from a great meeting in Edmonton.  David Cassidy began to be happy about delivering custom furniture to the dream home and mused that he would love to do the same for a Rotary Dream Home.  His happy buck turned into an umbrella buck.

Brent was happy with the meetings they had in Ottawa to get Customs back into Lethbridge.  He also invites us all to the Wednesday Chamber shine and show in his hanger from 5:30 to 7:30.  Harvey is happy that we are number one in curling.  Elisabeth says she was watching paint dry instead of watching curling.  Bob Carey is happy to play golf without loosing his balls.  Ken Lewis is happy that his daughter is coming back to Lethbridge and happy the community band and community singers have recorded a CD, with Howard Cable tapping the stick.  Lloyd is happy to be appointed to the Sports Foundation Board.  Marlin was happy that it is not blowing, Elisabeth couldn't understand why he would care.  Beatrice is happy her daughter came back safe and sound, because she kept her socks on.

Edourd paid an Umbrella buck to tell us that Western Wats is moving to Lethbridge.  They will provide employment for 300 young people as computer-aided telephone interviewers for this market research company.  Read all about the company at Western Wats Website

    SAA Next Week

Send Dawna Coslovi any interesting information that would generate some fellowship and fines.

    Legacy 2005

Darrell lead the presentation, a continuation of last week's.  Gord Jong told more than he cared to about how much money we have available for the project, and how much we would need to get it off the ground, and how much we normally expect to raise over the next years.  We would also need an additional $100,000 but only in Canadian dollars.  Jack Yaeck is heading up the fund raising, and sees no difficulty in raising that much money.  He also says we can get away from members selling tickets (phew).  The $200,000 Rotary input would be parlayed into $1.1 million through matching grants and other clubs participation.

The motion "That the Rotary Club of Lethbridge undertake as a 2005 Rotary Centennial project, the Galt Gardens Enhancement project, in conjunction with the City of Lethbridge, by committing $200,000" moved by Darrell Alexander and seconded by Peter Green, passed with no dissenters.

    Draw

$10.00 to Harvey Heck and $5.00 to Myles Bourke.

Nancy Walker says her mother was quite surprised to read in last week's Whoop~Up Bulletin that she is pregnant again.  Remember, you read it here first . . .
