The time for action is now!!
  • We have an opportunity capture the emotion and community support for this project. By spring Galt Gardens will into the heavy construction phases. An ideal time for fundraising.
  • We can, with no exposure to Rotary, design a fundraising plan to narrow the remaining gap on the $1.6 million funding model. (see Garth Sherwin’s letter)
  • Rotary can provide this project with many tools that the City or Province cannot provide on their own.

  • Friday, 26 Nov 2004

  • Hi Darrell,

  • Thanks for all the effort you’re putting towards the future phases of the Galt Gardens project.  As we discussed previously, I cannot see the City of Lethbridge directly funding costs associated with fundraising for this project.  City Council has directed certain dollars towards the project however none of it was allocated to covering the costs of fundraising.

  • As far as we are concerned, the Lethbridge Rotary Clubs have committed approximately $200,000 for this project.  If the clubs decide to spend a portion of this on fundraising, then that would be their decision.  If the fundraising initiative is successful, it should more than pay for itself and the project would ultimately benefit from that effort.
  • Thanks again for your dedication to this community project.

  • Yours truly,
  • Garth Sherwin, CA
  • Chief Financial Officer
  • City of Lethbridge

Our plan for success!!!

  • We will “hire” Cheryl Dick as our campaign consultant. This will enable her to build a credible “professional” fundraising campaign and strategy.
  • We will interview and “hire” a full-time contract person as our Major Gifts co-ordinator. If you have any candidates in mind please advance their information to me.
  • In early January we will launch our new fundraising Campaign
  • We have a Campaign Cabinet
26
Campaign Cabinet
  • Mark Deblios Chairman
  • Marilyn Smith
  • Wayne Syewart
  • Ryan Miller
  • Dick Turner
  • Ken Lewis
  • Cam Lavoie
  • Bernie Carriere
  • Pat Killoran
  • Phil North

  • Neil Foster
  • Mark Swartout
  • Ian Randall
  • Warren Andrews
  • Bev Lanz
  • Ed Fetting
  • Bev Mundel-Atherstone
  • Gord Jong
  • Les Talbot
27
How the math works….
  • Our financial commitment is $200,000
  • The city will allow us to deduct all fundraising costs that we incur from this obligation
  • The magic here is that our global commitment hasn’t changed, we merely need board approval for budget reallocation.
  • Other than the volunteer work of our campaign cabinet, our obligation remains the same.
28
"November 30,"
  • November 30, 2004
  • Approved by Rotary Club of Lethbridge Board

  • Motion:  THAT the Lethbridge Downtown Rotary Club recruit and engage a development officer on a term contract basis to implement and execute a fundraising campaign in support of the Galt Gardens Revitalization Project (the “Project”).
  • The term of the contract is not to exceed one year.  Compensation for the position will not exceed a maximum upset cost of $40,000 per annum, to be funded from the Club’s total commitment to the Project, and that the Club President be authorized to set such remuneration.
  • Further, that the Club engage the services of a fundraising coordinator to assist with the development of the campaign at a maximum upset cost of $2,500 per month for a maximum term of six months, to be funded from the Club’s total commitment to the Project, and that the Club President be authorized to set such remuneration.
