The Whoop-Up Bulletin

Written by Editor Judy Head

Vol. 84, No. 21 April 22, 2002

Rotarian of the Year Award:
The Club will select a Rotarian of the Year for recognition. Please send nominations to President Dave, dwhughes@telesplanet.net.

Golf Tournament:
Wayne Stewart reported on plans for the Golf Tournament to be held on Monday, June 17, 2002, at the Lethbridge Country Club. First tee-off is 12:15 p.m.. All members are encouraged to bring a guest. Green fees (non-members of Country Club) are $40.00 for 18 holes and $28.00 for 9 holes. Carts: $28.00 for 18 holes; $15.00 for 9 holes. Dinner: $20.00/person. You will be able to sign up starting next week.

Inbound Exchange Student:
Murray reports that our next exchange student is from Finland. Hanna-Maija (Hanski) Haikka is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Orivesi. She speaks fluent English (which is more than can be said for some of us). Murray is looking for host families.

Chiaki:
Chiaki reported on the fun she had at the District Conference in Calgary, including, according to independent reports, an impromptu piano concert in the lobby of the hotel. She tells us that her father will be her special guest at the Rotary meeting next Monday.

Proposed New Members:
Richard (Dick) Beck, proposed by Marlin Konynenbelt; classification: Utilities; Elizabeth (Liz) Rossnagel, proposed by Judy Head; classification: Public Library

Vocational Talks:
Stephanie Salonen talked about her decision to become a broker and financial advisor with her own company. She likes developing a strong relationship with her clients and maintaining a high standard of practice. She hopes that her vocation will continue to develop standard for education as well as practice. She advises young people who are interested in this field to gain experience working with a larger firm before striking out on their own. Tom Terrill described his path from Twin Butte to the CIBC in Lethbridge via Red Deer and Lethbridge with a detour to Rocky Mountain House where he met his wife, Megan. He is pleased to be able to serve the agricultural community in his current capacity with the Bank. A banker must be prepared to continue the learn as the environment changes. Thanks, Stephanie and Tom, for sharing your insights with us.
