Long gone President David Hughes reappeared, back from Spain.
Greeter Dale Martin Jr. introduced:
Barcelona
David thanks our club for giving him the opportunity to attend the International Conference in Barcelona along with nineteen thousand others. He laughs about all the pick-pocket stories and is happy to say none of our Rotarians made donations to the pickers.
Rotarian of the Year
Thanks Rotarian Dallas Harty and your wife Katrina for your service. Highlights of Dallas' year:
Dallas reminded us of the quote "Don't ever question that a few dedicated people can change the world."
Passing the Gavel or Throwing the Gauntlet?
Outgoing President David chided Frank that his first meeting features meat loaf for lunch, which isn't much of a start. Frank vows to offer David a plate of crow at the end of his term.
David thanks all Rotarians who made his job easier, through strong committee chairs, and the committees who pulled a successful year together. Thanks to wife Shirley, who first questioned David's sanity, then supported him in his presidential position.
Thanks to Carole who makes the task much easier, and to those who assisted in our exchange student program. Thanks Ed as Sergeant At Arms, and thanks to all those who made their membership in our Rotary Club meaningful.
David pinned Frank with the badge of office, and presented him with an empty binder for his year's agenda. Frank reciprocated and presented David with a past president's pin, drawing a minimum of blood.
Frank thanked all those who voted for him as President, and reminds us that he is approachable, humbled and happy to take on these duties. What did they feed you in Spain, Frank?
Happy Birthday Lottie
Lottie says that while some of us moan about celebrating another year, she thinks a birthday is a gift. On March 16, 2001, she was diagnosed with a serious illness that created the prospect of cutting her time short. Thanks to blood donors and support for research that may appear to be out of scope. Thanks to the willingness of previous patients to allow experimentation, and thanks to doctors who were willing to try unproven procedures, she had a stem cell transplant that allows her to call July 19, 2001 the birthday of her second life.
Stephanie Takes It Off
Frank called Stephanie up to have her newcomers ring removed. She beat Frank to the punch by handing him her name tag.
Eye Opener
Frank thanks those to attended Rotary International convention in Barcelona. They are: David and Shirley Hughes, Cam and Sharon Lavoie, Miles and Betty Burke, Mike and Lynn McGuire, oh yes, and Angie went with Frank, who still expresses amazement at the vastness and diversity of our organisation. They brought back many pennants from India, Nigeria, Japan, Congo and Oklahoma.
Live Free for a Year
Dallas thanks Rotarians who will be advertising our promotion. We will have more information on our website, which will be advertised in the newspaper.
New Member
Frank introduced Wayne Hawthorne as a new member, so greeters can please stop announcing him as member of Pincher Creek Rotary.
PR Lady
Ellie Peters drew our attention to page 18 of "The Business File" her magazine, where we see a full page promoting Rotary. Thanks Ellie.
Draw Partner
Eddie Kerans drew $10 winner Ellie Peters and $5 winner Sig Balfour. That's twice in the last four weeks isn't it Sig?
Mister Piano
Austin Fennell has officially taken over from Chiaki. Play it again Austin.
