    Frank Has Your Number
We will be picking table numbers on alternate meetings as we pay for lunch. This is to enable us to get to know more Rotarians. Yes, this change was approved by show of hands, very democratic of you Frank.

    Traveling Rotarian
Lindsay Jones of Melbourne, Australia was presented with a pennant. He is a member of the Baldwin club which raises $400,000 Aussie dollars (smaller than Canadian pesos if you can believe it), annually. His vocation is "Rural Water Supplies", produced by squeezing camels over collecting pans.

    Sex-citing Casino
Linda Storoz has secured a great fund-raiser for us. The Casino will be held the weekend before Christmas. Only those without a criminal record need apply. Sign up two Rotarians to share an eight hour shift, or elect to hog the whole shift yourself.

    Rotary Cocktail Parties
Thanks to last year's hosts: Mike McGuire, Dennis Chinner, Geri Hecker, Chris Murray, Peter Green, Myles Bourke, Helen Henderson, Cam Lavoie, Georgina Knitel, Ron Jacobsen, Darrell Alexander and Doug McArthur.

Linda's Top Ten Reasons for hosting a Rotary Cocktail Party

    1. You will finally be forced into cleaning your house.
    2. With the pre-selected guest list you can pretend to your neighbours you actually have friends.
    3. People bring food to your house.
    4. People bring booze to your house.
    5. You get to have Frank Vasil over . . .
    6. At the end of the night you sometimes have a few extra serving plates to add to your china collection.
    7. For once you won't need a Designated Driver!!!
    8. You get leftover food which, if apportioned carefully, may last a month or more
    9. You get leftover booze which. . . Wait, who apportions booze!!!
    10. Last and certainly best, you and your spouse have a chance to really contribute to Rotary fellowship.

    Executive and Directors
Frank introduced this year's members as found on the Website

    Who's Who?
Judy recently e-mailed complete membership lists via the Listserve, and will send out new versions as changes occur. If you missed getting yours, or did a "Frank" by dumping it digitally from Spain, you can E-mail Judy for the latest version.

    Hands Across the Border
Dick Turner reminds us, in his gentle voice, of the Sept 20-21-22 event in East Glacier, he has application forms.

Sow the Seeds of Love Means:
    Do if from your heart.
Do it because you like to do it.

    Sergeant At Arms Report
Ed Fetting conducted a Soviet style election to vote a new name for our President, who will from now on be addressed "*The Vasilator".

    Happy bucks
flowed from Ken Lewis, Jon Montpetit, Dawn Coslovi, Austin Fennel, Mike McGuire, Linda Storoz, Duncan Lloyd, Elizabeth Van Mill, Dick Turner, Doug McArthur, Brent Gateman.

    Fine Insurance
Ed needs part time Sergeants at Arms to take on a stint of service to Rotary. E-mail Ed or phone him to do your part.

    Umbrella Buck
Dallas cheerfully reports the 4th annual "Stars Carnival will be held at the Allan Watson School yard on Saturday. Also thanks to Judy for buying lunch and thanks to Rotarians for his Rotarian of the Year award.

    Fine for You to Say
Ed fined John Gogo for calling out "Hey Sexy", instead of Hello Lottie Austin. Sig Balfour paid a looney for answering John's welcome. Linda paid for her Sex-citing Casino enthusiasm. Dawna Coslovi paid to announce her August 16 Green Acres Golf Tournament. E-mail Dawna or see the website

    Guest Speaker
Doug McArthur introduced our own Pat Killoran who visited Fiji in March 2002, to view our Rotahome Project.

Pat and Linda visited the area near Lautoka, where they took many pictures of poor housing made of bits and pieces of corrugated metal hung together and subject to being blown to bits by cyclones which decimate housing. Families usually one parent with 4, 5, 6 kids live in hovels, but manage to be clean, well-dressed and tidy. A single mother is paid $28 a month from the Fijian government. Annual school fees are $100 per child.

Constant temperatures of 80 degrees F and up, mean that housing can be simple buildings. New homes are single rooms, cyclone resistant and built with a floor. Electricity and a rain water cistern are available options. People exhibit great pride in their houses, but are squatters on land they do not own. This ownership issue is contrary to the rules stated when applying to R.I. for matching grants.

Peter Drysdale is the one man show behind this housing project. He is a New Zealander whose family own a shipping company. He has the good wishes of his local Rotary Club, but he and one carpenter do all the work. Over the years they have constructed 816 homes which is one a week, for 3380 people. Each Sunday he drives his Rotamobile 300 plus Kms to deliver food, toys and magazines. He maintains records of the homes, owners and condition, and determines who is most in need of a new home.

Ablution blocks are small detached buildings where cooking with gas, washing and showers take place, away from sleeping areas.

Peter has acquired some land, so the next 40-60 house project will qualify for matching grants. Each house costs about $2000 Canadian to build. A contribution of $25,000 from Southern Alberta would make a significant contribution to the project. He has plans for a low interest mortgage plan for a future project too.

A Rotarian from the Vegreville club also made the trip to see Peter. She says, "Peter is the greatest Rotarian she has ever met." Hey Vegreville, let us partner on this project.
