    Dragon Boat Festival:
There are two ways the Rotarians can participate in the Dragon Boat Festival. You can sign up as a paddler in the Rotary boat; there will be a paddling clinic on June 14-16 and opportunities to practice before the event. You can also volunteer to help at the BBQ on Sunday evening. Contact Murray, 381-0568.

    Financial News:
Gord Yong, Treasurer Extraordinaire, presented the proposed budget for 2002/03. Highlights: membership fees will remain the same; $5000 has been budgeted for an international project; the Club is establishing a reserve fund that will be used to celebrate the Rotary Centennial in 2005. Members approved the budget.

    Program:
Dr. Robert Rogerson spoke about the enigma of the coulees in Southern Alberta. Why are they aligned at about 070 degrees? How were they formed? What is the impact of climatic factors on their formation and alignment? A coulee is a dry valley. While the alignment is close to the normal wind direction, Bob showed how wind can not be seen as responsible for the alignment. His research, assisted by many undergraduate students over the years, has found that the alignment of the coulees is consistent with joints and lineaments in the bedrock. He noted that climatic effects such as wind have an impact on shape and slump, they are not factors in the orientation of the coulees.
