David Lodermeier welcomed guests Marilyn Hawryluk (Bernie Carriere), Denise Demers (Stephanie Salonen), and John Harmer (Dawna Coslovi) as well as visiting Rotarians Ken Torry and Greg Weadick (Lethbridge Sunrise), and Wayne Hawthorne (Pincher Creek).
Rotary e-mail List:
Judy Head has created an e-mail list for our Club. Click on this address: rotary-l@uleth.ca and copy it into your e-mail address book. A message sent to this address reaches the 90% of our members for whom we have e-mail addresses.
Electronic Roster:
On a related matter, President David requested the members' views on placing Club roster information (e.g. name, partner's name, address, phone and fax numbers, etc.) on the Club's web page. This would give members with Internet capability access to current roster information and reduce the need for our many committees to print the roster.
Wayne Hawthorne, our Webmaster, explained how he had set up the Pincher Creek Club's roster on a password-controlled part of their web page; they have had no problems with the security of this information.
Moved by F. Vasil, seconded by D. Martin Jr., that we proceed to develop a Club roster on our website. Carried.
Group Study Exchange:
Ian Cameron is looking for 3 Rotarians to host a member of the GSE group from Korea for two nights, April 24 and 25. Please contact Ian: 327-2210; 320-0612; ian.cameron@police.lethbridge.ab.ca.
Dragon Boat Festival:
The Organizing Committee needs 16 more large tents (20 ft. x 20 ft) to serve as rest and change rooms for the Dragon Boat teams. Tents will be erected and taken down by professionals to ensure no damage. A big thank you to Ed Nestorowicz, Dawna Coslovi, Dale Martin Jr. and Harvey Heck who have already donated tents for the weekend. If you can help, please contact David Cassidy: 320-6562; 381-1746; cassup4@telusplanet.net
Sergeant-at-Arms:
Kendall Gibson was so happy after spending 2 weeks in Hawaii and returning to find he was the Chicken BBQ co-chair, that he let us off with happy bucks. Warning for next week: if there are empty chairs at the front of the room, those lurking at the back tables will pay the price!
Chiaki's Week:
Chiaki is settling into the Lewis household, where she is learning important life skills such as how to clean her room and do her laundry. Don't forget to include Chiaki in your plans - give her a call at 381-1889.
Vocational Talk:
Ellie Peters told us about herself - from her early days as a coalminer's daughter in Natal/Michel, to schooldays in Lethbridge, and the early years of her career in retail in Lethbridge and Calgary. On her return to Lethbridge, Ellie worked with the Lethbridge Herald's rural papers and special projects before starting her own business, AVI Commuinications. AVI does contract promotional work, organizes trade shows, and publishes a wedding planner and a bimonthly business magazine. Ellie is also active on the Lethbridge & District Exhibition Board. As District Manager of Child Find, she is justifiably proud of their success in fingerprinting 2200 children to date. Ellie and her husband have two sons, Ricky and Jordan. The constant theme in Ellie's story is her focus on serving others, and that's what helps make her such a great addition to our Club. Thanks, Ellie!
