    Black Tie Bingo
Darrell Alexander says he, Tim Waters and Marlin Konynenbelt have been calling Rotarians on the list for tickets. Call them if they missed you. Darrell 328-1176, Tim 381-8141 or Marlin 320-6010.

David Heaton says we still don't have a black, velvet Elvis painting donated as a prize for the Black Tie Bingo. Other prizes graciously received as well. Georgina called for help then offered thanks to Kendall, Lyle and Murray for offering to pickup prizes from donors.

    The Hanski Report
Thanks to Judy Head and George who took her horseback riding in the Crowsnest Pass. Hanski has officially moved in with Elisabeth Van Mills which she enjoys very much. She is settling into school routine and will be playing a part in the upcoming play Pinocchio. Is it the Truth? She is also enjoying Yoga on Monday evenings.

House Mother Elisabeth says "Please introduce yourself to Hanski, so when you phone to book an outing with her, she feels more at ease." Call Elisabeth or Hanski at 381-2554

    SAA
Eduard was somewhat subdued in the presence of our District Governor as Hanski collected happy bucks. Bill Cade paid a happy buck for every one of his twenty five years in Canada. Dale Merchant was a very quiet happy for completing two years on committee in Calgary. Dee Hebert was happy to be back. Dick Turner was his usual quiet self in thanking Karlin for the great time with his wife at the lodge. He also announces that he purchased a table of eight seats at the Black Tie Bingo, but needs an eighth person to fill the last chair. Ed Nestorowich is happy to have his cast off. Dave Cassidy paid to mention that Murray won a prize for his bridge score being tied for lowest place.

Dennis Chinner was happy to have attended an Elton John concert in Saskatoon. Did you bring back any more Saskatchewan Tupperware for Bruce VR? Peter Green paid a dollar to overcome his modesty at admitting to having the highest Bridge score. Brian Wielenga happily tells us that four Rotarians have been married to the four wives in attendance for a total of 187 years. "Is that a dollar per year", asked Ed?

Darrell was happy that ticket sales are going well. Frank is overjoyed that our DG is here. Stephanie is thrilled that Lethbridge Hurricanes are donating to "Live Free For A Year". Mr. Soprano "Gord Jong" is happy the kids are back in school. Tim Waters is happy he has tickets for the Rolling Stones in Toronto.

    Fine For You
Ed fined Tom Dejager for still wearing his new member tag, and dinged Lorne Armstrong for his inspired column headline in the Sunday Herald.

    Gift Giving
Angie (long suffering wife of Frank) presented guest Jane MacKay with a piece of pottery after spending a morning of coffee, shopping and many laughs.

    Guest Speaker
Joe Montpetit introduced Sandy MacKay, District Governor. Sandy joined Rotary in Medicine Hat in 1977, served as club president in 1983, served at President of the Waterton Peace Park Assn. and traveled to India on behalf of Rotary. At Saskatoon, he received his M.D. and FRCS in Ophthalmology, served as Chief of Medical Staff at Medicine Hat. He has a wife Jane, two sons and has been observed making attempts to play the bagpipes.

Sandy began his talk by thanking Past District Governor Dale Merchant for his role as mentor. He says that our President and Executive are doing very well. He admits that in his 25 years in Rotary, he never looked forward to a talk by a District Governor. Rotary International states he will visit all 46 clubs in the first six months of his term.

Our D.G. reminds us the Rotary organization places clubs at the top of the pyramid. Executives exist to support the club, RI exists to support Districts. International President Bhichai Rattakul believes in a "bottoms-up" organization in which clubs set their own goals and objectives.

    R.I. Priorities

    1. Membership
    2. Vocational Service
    3. R.I. & Polio Plus

Membership remains relatively stagnanat at 1.2 million members with an increase of only 70,000 last year. We lost 400,000 in the last four years. Losses in Canada and USA are being made up by increases in newly democratized Russia. However, the methods employed to raise $700,000 in one year by one club would be subject to jail time in North America. "We must accept the differences in other countries" he says.

Membership Retention is an important part of membership. We need good Rotarians, willing to do good work.

    Language Barriers
Last year when the slogan "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" was announced, some embarrassed Rotarians from other countries almost slid under the table, as the translation can denote sensuous, errotic or even scandalous meaning. The true meaning "Giving From The Heart" is critical to impart. Our new R.I. President chose to focus on Vocational Service and High Ethical Standards, even before the Enrons and World Coms emerged in disgrace.

    Polio Plus
Polio remains a priority. Last year 400,000 cases proved that it is not eradicated, and we will require two years free of the disease before we can think we have succeeded. When we do, we will save $1.5 billion annually.

    God's Work On Earth
Rotary allowed 800 people to walk on artificial limbs last year. 2000 cataract operations allowed people to see. Every Rotary dollar arrives at the intended recipient. R.I. holds the money for three years and operates off the interest earned.
